Bed bugs, so named because of their typical location, feed on warm blood to survive. Normally transported by humans, bed bugs can live up to 12 months and cause frustration in homeowners. They typically hide during the day, feed at night, and often leave tiny red spots on furniture and sheets.

Identifying bed bugs is the first step to eliminating an infestation. Check for the following bed bugs signs:

  • Blood spots on sheets and mattresses
  • Bug feces and skins
  • Eggs and egg shells
  • Live bugs
  • Bug bites especially on hands, arms, neck, face, and legs

Bite Symptoms include:

  • Itchy, red, raised bumps
  • Straight rows of bites on the skin
  • Skin swelling

To locate bed bugs in the home, it is necessary to find their hiding places. Make sure you check the following places:

  • Bed frame and headboard cracks
  • Mattress seams and tags
  • Furniture seams
  • Curtain Folds
  • Electrical outlets
  • Window and door frames

While this list is not exhaustive, it does provide a great starting point to locate bed bugs and develop a treatment plan.
